How to Write a Document Analysis!

  1. Obtain a document analysis sheet from our ENG304 Subversion and Scandal eLearn page or on this website.
  2. Print out document sheet and bring this, as well as a pencil with you to the BPL
  3. Answer all the questions on the sheet as follows, starting with the physical features that the book or work contains.
  4. Then move to answer the questions that dive deeper into the relationship between you as a reader and the text. Despite having encountered this work for the first time at the BPL, try and answer the more abstract questions to the best of your ability.

Custom Document Analysis Form

This Document Analysis Sheet is very similar to the ones we used in the Rare Books room to fully analyze the documents we worked with.  This sheet has been customized for use in books one would see published today.  Changes include options for nonfiction or fiction, rather than a quarto or folio of the original sheets.
